SECOND HALF HEROICS PROPEL BLUES PAST WOLF PACK
- Submitted by
Trailing 14-8 at halftime and staring elimination from the Canadian Rugby Championship in the face, Ontario Blues rallied with 30 second half points to crush previously undefeated Prairie Wolfpack 38-17 at Oakville RFC on Tuesday night.

The Blues scored on the last play of the first half and then ran in four tries in the second to put them in a position to repeat last years title.

On a rainy, damp night, Wolfpack opened the scoring from a line out, feeding national 7s player Jeff Hassler for a try, converted by Steve Woodward.  Blues responded, working the blind side to put flanker John Moonlight in, but the convert was missed.

The Prairies came right back and worked prop forward Andrew Tiedemann in for another converted score to lead 14-5, but the remainder of the game belonged to the Blues. Daypuck kicked penalties on the last play of the first half and the first play of the second, followed quickly by tries from Ryan Macsween, Jamie Mackenzie Alistair Clark, and Tyler Ardron, with another two penalties from Daypuck with only a single penalty from Woodward in reply from the Wolfpack.

“One of our best halves of rugby ever,” said a happy Blues coach Chris Silverthorn. “But tons of work remain to get to the top.”

The Blues win, combined with the Rock 26-20 win over Pacific Tyee, means that the Blues can win the title with wins in their next two games, which are away to Tyee and Rock on 15th and 22nd September respectively. A single defeat, however, would end those hopes as the CRC race has it all to play for in September.

Blues will face Pacific Tyee in Langford BC on Saturday, September 15 at 10 pm Eastern time, check back for media details on what should be a cracking game between the bitter provincial rivals
